IRCTC Launching its SMS-Based Ticketing Service from July 1





IRCTC launching its New trend of ticket booking based on SMS services. For this scheme it first makes all the mobile number is mandatory. This feature is to limit Internet penetration and make use of high mobile phone user, IRCTC is launching SMS-based ticketing service from July 1. A dedicated number will be announced soon for this.


This methodology is allowing you to book tickets from anywhere. There will be no requirement of a printout because the ticketing message will be considered as valid during the journey . 

So, this is how it will work. You have to register the mobile number with IRCTC as well as your bank. IRCTC has tied up with over 20 odd banks for this service, said an IRCTC spokesperson. 

The bank will provide MMID (Mobile Money Identifier) and OTP (one time password) for authorizing the payment. 

You have to type the train number, destination, Class and passenger details such as name, age and gender on the SMS box. 

The sender will receive transaction ID and then can make payment through sending another SMS by typing PAY followed by the transaction ID, MMID which is received from the bank and password. 

The service is available to all mobile subscribers and Rs.3 is being charged per SMS and payment gateway charges are Rs.5 for the ticket amount up to Rs.5000 and Rs.10 for more than Rs.5000.
